On Saturday, July 4, 2026, a group of remarkable young women will take a significant step into a new chapter of their lives. As they walk across the stage at the Genesis House Graduation Ceremony in Lekki, they will not simply be receiving certificates; they will be celebrating a journey of courage, healing, and transformation.
For many of these young women, the road to this moment has not been easy. Yet through determination, support, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives, they have emerged stronger, more confident, and ready to embrace the future.
Genesis House, an initiative of Freedom Foundation, is a rehabilitation and empowerment shelter dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual abuse, exploitation, and human trafficking. More than a shelter, Genesis House provides a pathway to recovery, dignity, and self-reliance.
Over the past year, residents have participated in intensive psychosocial support, life skills development, and vocational training designed to help them regain independence and confidence. Through the guidance of counsellors, trainers, and mentors, they have learned valuable skills in tailoring, baking, makeup artistry, wig-making, and hair accessory production.
Beyond vocational training, they have rediscovered something even more important: their voice, their worth, and their ability to dream again.
The 2025/2026 graduation ceremony will serve as a celebration of achievement, resilience, and possibility.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore a vibrant skills exhibition showcasing products and creations made by the graduates themselves, from fashion pieces and baked goods to beauty products and handcrafted accessories. Every display tells a story of perseverance and growth.
The event will also feature a powerful documentary highlighting the graduates’ journeys from arrival at Genesis House to successful completion of the programme. Through personal stories and reflections, attendees will witness the remarkable transformation that takes place when survivors are given the support and opportunities they deserve.
Transformation on this scale does not happen alone. It is made possible through the collective efforts of donors, volunteers, partners, board members, and supporters who believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to heal and thrive.
The graduation ceremony is also an opportunity to strengthen support for future residents. Every contribution helps ensure that more survivors can access the support, protection, and empowerment they need to rebuild their lives.
There is profound significance in witnessing someone’s transformation.
For survivors who have spent years feeling unseen, unheard, or defined by their past experiences, community recognition can be deeply affirming. By attending the graduation ceremony, guests send a powerful message: your story matters, your progress matters, and your future matters.
The event is a public celebration of resilience, empowerment, and hope. We invite individuals, organizations, partners, and community members to join us as we celebrate this extraordinary milestone.
